| Laser Hair Removal |
|
Laser hair removal works when there is colour in the root of the hair. The laser is attracted to the melanin or colour in the hair follicle. People with white or grey hair do not respond well to laser hair removal. At Illumination we have two types of lasers. One specializes in dark and tanned skin. The other specializes in light and dark hair on lighter skin types. What do treatments feel like? The laser cools and soothes as it glides along your skin. When the pulse of light is delivered, some clients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. No local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required, however some clients may prefer to use a topical anesthetic, such as Emla, when sensitive areas are treated. How many treatments are necessary? Most areas require 6 treatments, but the number required depends on various factors such as the hair's thickness, the area treated, and the hair's growth cycle. Treatments are spaced at 6 - 12 weeks apart as hair grows at different rates in various body areas. ie fast on face, slow on back. What happens after the treatment? Immediately after the treatment, the area may appear red and swollen; this should subside in a couple of hours. Three to seven days after treatment, you will experience what seems to be re-growth, however most of these hairs are being shed as a result of the treatment, and are not re-growing. You should not wax or pluck between treatments, but you can shave. Following each treatment you can return to normal activities immediately. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treatment area exposed to the sun. Is it permanent? Treatment results may vary among clients. For some this may mean a significant decrease in the frequency with which you must shave. For others it may mean permanent cosmetic improvement because hair re-growth is minimal, very fine or completely absent. Most clients will lose, on average, 20% to 30% permanently with each treatment. Everyone will have some re-growth with time regardless of the technology used. Hair that grows back will tend to be much finer and less concentrated.
Why would I come to Illumination Laser Medical Associates a for a laser treatment when the salon has laser treatments as well? Currently lasers are not regulated by the Canadian government. What that means is that anyone can purchase a laser and operate one without any formal training or knowledge. Lasers are an incredible technology for achieving skin care goals. They can also be very harmful for the skin and the client if used incorrectly. At Illumination Laser Medical Associates, having a physician doing the consults helps to ensure that only those treatments that are suitable for the individual will be done. All hair removal treatments are done by a nurse. We do decline to do treatments on individuals who we feel are not suited for laser treatments. (Prices based on ONE treatment) PRICE APPROX.
